My name is
Nomthandazo Thandeka Purity Zondi. I am a thirteen year old girl. Im in year eight
and go to Eastlea Community School here in Newham. I was born in South Africa, when I was
eleven my mother found a job in England, so we moved to Newham. I dont like it here;
its very different from South Africa. I miss South Africa, it is a beautiful
country, but I guess this country is beautiful too in its own way. Its very hard making life in a different country. You have to try and please people you know nothing about. In South Africa you could talk to anyone without fearing what he or she will say. The schools there are so nice and pleasant, I enjoyed going to school there unlike here. Maybe its because Im new and from another country so they cant seem to accept me. To me South Africa is the best place to be. It makes you glow with the sunny skies, and sparkle with the silver moon. It makes you feel beautiful with the black skies filled with diamond like stars. When I came to England, it was beautiful; everything looked so nice in the sunny sky. Everyone is so helpful and concerned with other peoples welfare (I like that). They make you feel welcome. They treat you as if you belong. The only thing that spoils this country is the schools. Well Im not saying its the tutors, its the students. They have no respect for their tutors and each other. Unfortunately tutors have to teach them everyday, which means they spend most of the time trying to calm them down. Another thing that spoils this country is the weather. Yes in winter its cold, but in the other seasons it should be warm. Well there is nothing you can change about the weather. I should just say there is a big difference between England and South Africa. Firstly the weather, is usually cold and rainy, and snows once in a while with grey skies. In South Africa it is usually sunny and warm with great big fluffy clouds and blue skies. Another difference is the transport. Here they use buses and trains (underground), whilst in South Africa we use combis and taxies. Well there are a lot of different things we could mention, like food, schools and even fashion. We can even compare the things to see which is best. Another thing that makes South Africa and England different is, the people in South Africa arent that concerned about other peoples welfare, but they have respect for them. Maybe South Africa and England also have similar things. One thing is fore sure, that Englands rules and regulations are totally different, even in schoolwork. When I came to Newham I liked it (still do). Firstly because of the helpful and nice people, secondly because of the public services you get. Newham is an organised borough compared to others I wont mention. It cares about the people and their environment, which shows what a wonderful place it is. The best thing is, because Im foreign doesnt mean I get less or more service; they treat me like Im British. This also shows me that the borough and the country itself arent racist or have nationalism. The only places I find (personally) difficult are the schools (well the one I go to anyway) are corrupt. There is no respect from the students, its quite sad when you think about it. Tutors cant find time for those who want to learn, because they have to straighten those disrespectful students who dont follow the schools curriculum. Maybe in a few years time Ill still be here. If I am I will be finishing at college heading for university. I think I have a lot of potential. I give my best with all my schoolwork. I would like to become a trades businesswoman. I may have trouble on the way, but that wont stop me. I believe that if we can reach the moon with only one rocket ship, then anything is possible if you put your mind to it. In a few years I would have grown mildly and learnt a few lessons on the way. I think the best lesson of all is accepting change.
