Buddhism first of all is not a religion it is a philosophy and it comes from the Hindu religion and remember Hindu is one of the oldest religion, it is older than Christianity or Buddhism.
Buddhism is unlike other religions because Buddhists are not asked to believe anything on trust. They are free to examine all the teachings carefully and come to their own conclusions, Buddhism does not teach belief in god, People can practise Buddhism with or without taking part in ceremonies. Buddhism is also like other religions because it has temples and shrines where people go to make offerings in front of images.

Buddhist sit quietly in meditation and sometimes chant-often singing the same phrase over and over again, there are teachings about life and guidelines about how Buddhists should behave, there are ancient texts that are treated with great respect.
Buddhism is a way of life which is the teachings of a man lived in Northern India (near Himalayas which is now a part of Nepal) called Siddhartha Gautama who lived about two and a half years ago. His followers call him "Buddha",which means "the enlightened one" or " the one who is fully awake" because people believed that Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) was the first one to discover the truth about life.
